You know how the saying goes; "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all" Lately I have come across far too many lets just call them "outspoken" quotes from stylish celebs, fashion industry tycoons and bloggers.
Call me old fashioned but when you have a large on-line presence, and a following of young impressionable tweens and teens its irresponsible to throw your words around, curse and use gods name in vain. This week one of my fav bloggers commented back to her fans on an Instagram photo of hers and did several of the above mentioned. I was turned off from reading her blog the entire week because I felt like not only was she being flippant and unprofessional, but like she wasn't taking her work seriously, or was taking her 'fame' for granted. Ick...
Lets face it, these days you can easily lose your job, your fans and the industries respect if you write, tweet, photograph or record something that is inappropriate And rightfully so, because along the way people get hurt, insulted and alienated.
In the midst of this I was inspired to look for some positive quotes (cause positive it where its at), from some reputable sources. The above quote really made me chuckle, mainly because of who said it, but, I will reveal who that someone is a bit later.
I consider this a fantastic quote because we don't always like to admit that from time to time we let ourselves think of "superficial" stuff, like fashion. Everyone thinks of fashion
but sometimes we are afraid to admit that, why? What’s the crime in caring about
what you wear, how you wear it, where you got it?
As I was writing this post a reader happened to commented on my blog with the following quote, "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." Dr. Seuss.
That happens to be one of my favourite quotes of all time, and it is so powerful because it can be applied to so many facets of life.
So in keeping with the theme of positive, uplifting words, here are some more that I feel are worthy of being shared, whether you're reading them for the very first time or for the hundredth time I think they all can inspire and promote the sharing of positive words over the internet, and of course they are fashion related :)
“Oh, never mind the fashion. When one has a style of one's
own, it is always 20 times better.”
Margaret Oliphant
"I like being a woman, even in a man’s world. After
all, men can’t wear dresses, but we can wear the pants."
Whitney Houston
"Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but
you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the
way you live."
Gianni Versace
"Over the years I have learned that what is important
in a dress is the woman who is wearing it."
Yves Saint-Laurent
"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the
world."Marilyn Monroe
"I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it." Alexander McQueen
And finally, I will fill you in on who said the opening quote, it was Michelle Obama! Just to prove that even the First Lady can be honest and light hearted when discussing fashion, should we all?
Love this...I am all about being positive. Great quotes and excellent points. Cursing seems to be the norm these days and I admire your stance on this issue. Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com
