Beauty And The Mail Box
Last week we were discussing beauty box subscriptions, to order or not to order? More importantly which one to order? Half of the guess work has already been done for me since I live in Canada and a bunch of them don't ship out here, far, far out here in the barren land of Toronto. Anywho, the idea is still on the table but I haven't quite decided on which one to go for. In case you missed the post you can check it out below, along with 19 other fantastic posts thanks to IFB.

The Round Up: June 7, 2013
Happy Friday!
We are only two weeks away from the first day of summer. Yippy! The only issue is, its freezing and rainy here in Toronto. So lets pretend I live somewhere warm like say....ANYWHERE ELSE, and make believe that I have to battle the affects of heat, humidity and sunshine.
Sooo, here I am in sunny MIAMI, FLORIDA (that's better) and the weather is hot, hot, hot. Not to mention its super humid, ugh. I am quite concerned that my color treated hair is already suffering from all those trips to the beach on the weekends. Whats a girl to do?
My top 3 issues are 1. Frizz due to high levels of humidty 2. Damage from heat and sun 3. That uncomfortable feeling of hair sticking to the back of your neck on the super warm days
1. Fight frizz due to humidity: I previously lived in the UK, so please trust that I understand humidity and the affects it has on your hair. The key to preventing epic frizz failures is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! If your hair is not properly hydrated and you further torture it with a blow dryer, then step out into a humid climate, say bye bye to whatever style you had five min before.
My recommendation is simple, use a natural, high quality styling product before applying any hear to your tresses. I live for Phyto products so here I have shown you their Daily Ultra Nourishing Botanical Cream.
Available at Sephora, this particular product is so lightweight and you only need a teeny tiny bit to do the job. One tube lasts forever because a little goes a long way. I only use it when I am going to heat style my hair, it is not my daily leave in conditioner.
2. Protect your color treated hair from sun and heat damage: Ojon products work well and smell oh so good. The Ojon secret is a combination of ginseng, lemongrass and honey, which earns bonus points for being a refreshing summer scent. Ojon Rare Blend Protecting Treatment
I like this one because it doesn't make my hair greasy. Make sure to shake it well before use as it does tend to separate when left to settle.
3. I just cut my hair last week (more on that later) but prior to that my hair was really bringing me down. My solution was to tie my hair up in a pony tail or messy bun day after day, after day. The only good thing that came from that was I discovered these super cute "ouchless" hair ties from Anthropologie. Not just important for people with gross split ends who haven't colored their hair in 10 months, these cute hair ties will keep your hair off your neck and out of your face in the heat : Cute hair ties from Anthropologie
How cute are they? I feel slightly less guilty tying my hair back when the colorful and sparkly tie peaks out around my pony tail.
So, now that I shared my summer hair woes I would like to know what issues do you deal with when the temperature rises?
As usual please share below. And make sure to have a fantastic weekend :)

The Round Up: May 31, 2013
Happy Friday everyone! The first day of summer is officially only 3 weeks away. While I already got my bronzed skin from my trip to the Dominican Republic (sorry, I just had to bring that up) this is the time of year us Canadians flee from our igloo's and try to absorb as much of that hot humid summer weather as we can.
Not surprisingly this can destroy your skin, hair and nails. (Yes your nails can suffer from sun damage as well.)
So to prepare us for summer the next three week's round ups will reveal my top summer skin, hair and nail savers. All products are available at Sephora
This week we are talking skin....
1. SPF 30: I'm starting off with SPF because I am a firm supporter of protecting your skin. I have suffered some brutal sun burns as a silly teenager, but in past years I have taken extreme precautions to keep my skin protected when I'm out in the sun. No more messing around, sun spots and damage are irreversible and don't make me bring up the C word!!
With that said, meet my all time favorite facial moisturizer, Clinique meet reader, reader meet Clinique. This baby is a BB cream with SPF 30 (also comes in an SPF 40 which I wear). The reason why I am obsessed is because its also tinted, it comes in three shades and TRUST me this tinted cream is not like the others you have tried. It goes on perfectly smooth and even, even a dummy like me can apply it successfully without streaks. Clinique Age Defense BB Broad Spectrum SPF 30
P.S I have been wearing this formula (sans BB obvs since BB is a new phenom) for 7 years after discovering it in Boots in the UK, so this is not a fad or a new product I am just trying out.
2. Bronzing Powder: If you think bronzer is redundant during the summer then clearly you didn't read #1 - SPF! If you're lathering up on sun block like you should be you will still need a good bronzing powder even in the summer months. THIS ONE from Guerlain is my all time favorite.
My Roomie from law school swears by this stuff. And although its a bit pricey she got me hooked. It really is the BEST bronzer out there. Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer
3. Detox Mask: I don't know what your summer routine includes, but mine is spent outside, hiking, walking, swimming with my dogs. If you're active in the summer you will know that sweaty gross feeling you get after a day in the heat and humidity. If you tend to not wash your face right away or you just need something extra to feel rejuvenated then I think a clarifying mask would be perfect for you.
Boscia Clarifying Detox Mask is my all time favorite facial mask. It is a deep cleansing clay mask that truly leaves your face feeling fresh and purged of whatever gross gunk was on it before.
I hope everyone enjoys the sunny weather this weekend, and since temperatures are soaring here in Toronto I need to just mention that now is the time of year when our pets can suffer greatly if left unattended in the heat without water and care. Please, PLEASE do not leave your dog in an untended car, even for 5 minuets, it can be fatal. Thanks for listening :)

Novello Recommends Part 1
Check it out, I have decided to reveal some of my top beauty picks. These are not fad products that I've recently discovered, no, no, these are my tried, tested and true favs which I am deeply committed to. I have been using these babies for years. So I figured I may as well share the wealth and fill you all in on my best beauty secrets in my first instalment of "Novello Recommends".
First, for us ladies who experience dry scaly skin in the winter and thus dread shaving. I wish I could just let my leg hairs grow all winter long but I doubt my husband or the sucker beside me at yoga would appreciate that. I found that two or three days after shaving my skin is so inflamed I end up scratching it till it bleeds. Gross! That was until I discovered eos products several years ago. The sensitive- fragrance free shave cream is remarkable, you can shave wet or dry and it truly leaves your skin soft and I have yet to experiance that horible itchy dryness days later. Makes sense since after all, you do know eos stands for 'evolution of smooth' don't you?
Next up, my coveted Vichy concealer. I have been using their Dermablend for at least 10 years now. I have gone through countless tubes of this stuff and since I rarely wear make up but wear concealer every day I am always shocked that a tube lasts me 1 full year. My mother was the one who introduced me to this product, she's so wise. And you can find it at Shoppers Drug Mart which is fantastic.
Laura Mercier tinted foundation has to be my biggest score make-up wise. The day I discovered this in Sephora my life changed; seriously. I am make-uply challenged to the point where foundation application is beyond me. This product has a perfect tint and SPF so I can just apply it all over my face and I'm done.
What can I say about this next product besides, its freaking awesome! Philosophy's When Hope Is Not Enough serum is exactly as they descirbe it on their website "lightweight, oil-free antioxidant and peptide serum helps reduce the first signs of ageing and protect skin against the future signs of ageing" Enough said.
Up next, Moroccanoil Treatment. Considering how long my hair is (if I'm not careful it will swim in the toilet) and the fact that I am in need of a trim at the moment a dollop of this stuff and my hair is silky and shiny even after blow drying and curling the crap out of it. I have also used their shampoo in the past and they are equally as effective.
The last is truly a little secret my mom and I share, its Plus White 5 Minute Rapid Whitening. I have tried the Crest, Rembrandt, Colgate etc brands that claim to whiten your teeth in anywhere from 7 days to 7 minutes but they never worked for me, and they were a pain in the butt. I didn't want to spend 30 min with that mouth guard filled with bleach on my teeth (it makes you drool like mad) so this product was perfect for me. You dab a bit on your teeth and wait five min then rinse, et voilĂ your teeth actually appear to be whiter THAT day. They say to use it for 7 days in a row, twice a day. But it is also good for quick touch ups before events.
So that's it for now, I hope you try out some of my fav's and if you happen to have a recommendation of your own in the same categories please feel free to share because I am always willing to try new products.
